St. Edwards University was closed locked down on Tuesday April 17,2007 due to a non-specific bomb threat. The university's website responded quickly, posting a short blurb about the situation. They also had a link available for more answers. They addressed the fears and concerns of the community while following protocol. They also had another link set up displaying their emergency response guide. I think St. Edward's did a fantastic job of addressing, dealing, and managing the situation.

The news did a very effective job of covering the story. On the site I used for my reference, it had additional information about other bomb threats and situations. The news site and university site were very similar, they both spoke of the same encounters. The news site was very informative, detailing the chain of events as well as gave future information the public might need. I think both parties did an excellent job at addressing the bomb threats. Of course the news link was more elaborate but the University did it's part to keep it's students as well as parents and general public informed.

Grassroots Organization
Grassroots is a movement, usually political, is driven by citizen in the community. It's a natural yet spontaneous movement. Since grassroots is a citizen based, fundraising is a big part if the organization. They have to raise money, budget, and spread the word amongst themselves. Grassroots host parties, meetings, put up posters, set up tables, and organize large demonstrations to get their point across.
Astroturf is a "fake" grassroots group. They are usually established through corparations or P.R. firms. They are created to generate instant public support on a specific point of view. Activists who are recruited are usually deceived or uninformed about the cause in which they are fighting for.
Rainforest Action Network is a large grassroots organization. Some would consider them an astroturf. They have been dubbed "the most savvy agitators of the environmental business,"
by The Wall Street Journal. RAN believes that the old way of doing things and causing damage to the atmosphere is no longer acceptable. I classify them as a grassroots even though they have a lot of funding. They are also larger than most grassroots but you cant blame anyone for wanting to get involved with a good cause.

Deepa Mehta
Deepa Mehta
Deepa Mehta, born 1950 in Amritsar, India, is an acclaimed Indian and Canadian film director and screenwriter who are based in Toronto and Delhi. Mehta graduated from the University of Delhi with a degree in philosophy, and then shortly migrated to Canada. She started her career writing children’s movies. Her first film “Sam and Me,” won an honorable mention at the Cannes Film Festival in 1991. She started an elements trilogy with the titles: “Fire” (1996), “Earth” (1998) and lastly “Water” (2005). “Water” is a Canadian Academy Awards Nominee. Though people did not want her to film this movie, Mehta waited five years from the scheduled start of production and had to relocate to Sri Lanka instead of India. Mehta tells a chilling story of an eight-year-old girl who has just lost her husband and is sent to widow's ashram, an institution for widows to make amends for the sins from her previous life that supposedly caused her husband's death.
Mehta's father owned numerous movie theaters and was a film distributor. Though she showed no early interest in the family business, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. She got her start working for a company that made educational and documentary films for the Indian government. In 1973 her new husband, Paul Saltzman a young Canadian filmmaker, moved to Toronto with her brother Dilip. They started Sunrise Films. Sunrise films created documentaries and eventually went into television.
Mehta has established a very prestige reputation. She address universal identity problems while maintaining a high level of traditions in her films.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is one of 11 children. He is an environmental lawyer and hosts Ring of Fire. He was arrested for heroin use and possession. He was only sentenced to two years probation and drug tests. Wasn't that nice for him? He has been married twice and has 6 children. His arrest also required some community service in which he started with "River Keeper" organization. After his community service was over they organization hired him as chief prosecutor. "Since 1987 Kennedy has served as a Clinical Professor of Environmental Law and co-director of the Environmental Litigation Clinic[6] at Pace University School of Law. The clinic allows second and third year law students to try cases against Hudson River polluters. Kennedy also serves as a senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council,[7] a lobbying firm that works to expand environmental regulations and restrict land use." (Wikipedia) Now Riverkeeper, is associated with "Waterkeeper Alliance" Kennedy's umbrella organization. "Waterkeeper Alliance has bottled water called "Tears of Clouds" and "Keeper Springs. " He is often ridiculed for making profit form family owned oil companies.
Kennedy is an active blogger at the Huffinton Post and has written two books and several articles. He writes about the environment issues and tries to get the word out about global warming. He is a very influential person in our society that is pushing for awareness. He will be speaking at the University of North Texas' "Water Ways 2007" environmental showcase. It should prove to be quite an experience.

Water Ways 2007
Water Ways 2007 is going to be great. With 3 days a valuable knowledge and information; why would anyone want to miss out? Water ways 2007 is the second biennial conference held at UNT. Organized by the Philosophy of Water Project along with other departments Water Ways 2007 is not your ordinary conference. Featuring profound speakers from scientist to politicians such as, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Richard Sparks. They will be discussing all of the epidemic problems that are and could occur as well as preventative methods.
On the first day, March 13,2007, there will be opening remarks laying out the programs and issues to be discussed. Following the opening there will be a panel discussing rainwater harvesting featuring speaker Irene J. Klaver. Rodney Love, owner of Tierra Designs Rainwater Harvesting/Waterwise Landscaping, will be discussing North Texas Drought and the importance of water conservation. There will also be Philosophy in Film Series, the first film being showed by Deepa Mehta titled simply "WATER." There will also be artists who have created work inspired by and developed for Water Ways 2007.
